Black Sun (German: Schwarze Sonne) is a type of sun wheel (German: Sonnenrad) The Black Sun design consists of twelve radial sig runes. The sig rune appears as Old Norse and Old Icelandic (Sól) and as Old English (Sigel) and meant 'Sun.'

The sig rune was later adapted into the emblem of the SS, who changed the concept associated with it fron 'sun' to 'victory,' as the German word for victory is 'sieg.'
